I use plastic bottles to make dolls.  Plastic bottles were not included as part of the municipal recycling pick up when I first started; and plastic bags, which I use for clothing, were not being collected by stores for recycling, either.  So I was consciously trying to use materials that really were destined for the dump when I made these dolls.

What I didn’t know then was that there is a tradition of making dolls out of bottles.  I still am searching for more information, but my friend Jane M in Corvallis, OR showed me the bottle doll that has been handed down to her.  It is made with a glass bottle and a silk stocking (I use old socks), and carefully sewn cloth dress.
