Recycled Sculpture by Second-hand Sid
Olympia Dumpster Diver Second-hand Sid aka Steven Suski has a solo show at South Puget Sound Community College’s Kenneth J. Minnaert Gallery. While most of the work is painting and some of the paintings are on reused stuff like styrofoam and old canvas, Sid also has 3 of his encaustic sculptures on display. These sweet little abstract figures are made out of empty cardboard tubes, cracked glass vases, burnt-out light bulbs, and other odd things, all covered with colored wax. What we particularly like about these figurines is the way the form of the raw materials are still evident while they are combined in a non-folk arty kind of way to create playful yet elegant shapes.
