Recycled Art at Arts Walk
There should be an on-line gallery for all of the interesting art that was at Olympia’s Spring Arts Walk: I didn’t get to see much of it since I was holding court at Cast Off Art Studio with Bil Fleming and Jenny Macc. I missed George Kurzman’s mixed recycled media paintings (as well as Trudes Tango’s ceramics), but I did get a glimpse of Al Barney’s recycled materials assemblages (did not get a pic, though). I did spend some time viewing Ray Evans “Junkyard Creations,” made from old metal pipes and other rusty parts, and was delighted that these “found object sculptures” were really fun, with dynamic and playful poses. Displaying them in Sylvester Park was a great idea; usually there is music in the park, but for some reason, not this year. Too bad there wasn’t music from recycled materials (like steel drums or even the Metaphonics) to go along with the art. I wish Olympia (and/or TESC) would host an extensive recycled art exhibit, maybe an expanded recycled art sculpture garden at Sylvester Park next spring Arts Walk, but until then, it was exciting to see artists, young and old, sharing with our community how to MAKE ART NOT WASTE!
