Ruby is in Seattle today to present a talk about her recycled art and inspirations to the Contemporary QuiltArt Association. It is great to have a chance to share all this accumulated knowledge about recycled art in the Northwest to a live audience; it is also an opportunity to learn some new information, too! I am hoping that there will be some members who will turn me on to art and artists that I have not heard about yet … maybe I will even meet a recycled art quilt maker to feature on this blog sometime. Which reminds me: I should do a post about how quilts traditionally were made from recycled materials.

Loved your talk at CQA today! I really enjoyed seeing your “sweet wishes” dolls — do you know the book The Kitchen Madonna by Rumer Godden? about a boy who makes Russian-style Madonna icons from candy wrappers and wrapping paper, etc. — and especially the life size dancer. I, too, love Marita Dingus and her work! I will email you a couple of pictures of my quilts, which are predominately made with cut-up garments. I love handling fabric with a past — clothing, dish towels, aprons, fabric sacks, etc. Oh man, now I just want to go make stuff!
